MF 135 Gas - maintenance info

cbosworth Thought I would post this info, to help others.

Plugs:
Champion UJ-8
Gap: 0.025 inches

Points:
Gap: 0.021 inches

Timing: 26' BTDC at 2000 rpm or greater (that is alot different than cars!)
(static setting is 12')

Firing order: 1-2-3

Compression ration: 7.5:1
You can also check the health of your motor by bringing each cylinder to Top Dead Center with both values closed. Remove the spark plug and with an air compressor and a special air hose inject air into the cylinder at low pressure ( about 10 lbs). (auto part store have the air hose)
if you it holds air - all is well
if you hear air leaking in the carburetor - your intake valve is weak
if you hear air leaking in the exhaust - you r exhaust valve is weak
if you hear air leaking in the oil filler cap - your rings are weak

This is a pretty simple test and tells alot of information.
if it leaks under

Oil: 12.75 pints (just under 6.5 qts) at the High mark when the oil filter is changed.
change oil every 100 hours of use, replace filter every other oil change according to the book ( I replace the filter every oil change)

Steering box - 1.5 pints
transmission - 42 pints with multipower, 44 pints standard ( that sounds backwards but it is correct)
Pwr Steering - 0.84 pints
cooling - 18 pints, (just over two gallons)

don't forget to grease the zirks: two at the lift shafts under the seat plus, the ball joint zirks at the steering

jim h new to the MF135. Where is the cap located for replacing the engine oil?
