I have a Massey MF165 diesel with a starting issue. Seems to be worse in very cold weather ( below zero) in fact in the last 3-4 weeks I havent been able to start it at all.
When I turn the Key I get a sense that things are engaing , but the starter doesnt make a sound.
In an effort to fix this problem I replaced the solenoid last weekend, thinking thats why the starter wouldnt engage.
As the weather is cold, I have a block heater and i plug it in for at least 2 hours before attempting to start. Still no go.
Once I get the thing cranking, then I can deal with fuel issues etc.
|Geoff Gane||Hi Mark, are you sure that there is power getting to the solenoid when you turn the key?,there is a safety start switch situated on top of the gearbox just behind the engine/gearbox join...try and join the eires and see what happens as this will eliminate the safety switsh....there are other things to try but one step at a time is less confusing.....feel free to get in touch if need be...Remember I am going on UK spec as that might differ from your 165 depending on what part of the globe you are from
|Big Dean||Hi Mark If you can hear the solenoid clicking when you try to start it your problem is probably your starter. If the solenoid does not click then I would check the neutral safety switch like Geoff says.
|evan||I have a MF 50F it will not start only if I jump it I have replaced the battery had the altornator checked and starter solinods are good any idea what could be wrong with it.
