Looking for a little advice. When I was delivering hay the other day I ran across a pretty rough MF 250. The exhaust manifold was cracked because they hit the muffler on something, and the sheet metal isn't anything special, but it can be easily fixed. Also the fan belt was off so I'm kind of worried about them running it hot. The tractor sat for a year or so, so I had to jump it. It fired right up on the first crank and sounded alright. The manifold probably was deceiving the sound. I really don't know much about these tractors, but I think I could get it fairly cheap for a fixer up. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should look for, and what I should offer? I know what it is around 40 hp, but really have no experience with the masseys. What kind of gear ranges and does it have a two speed like the deeres? There was a sticker on it saying that it was made in Great Britain, were these different than ones made in other countries.
|Big Dean||A nice MF250 in this area goes for from about $8000 to $10000 one in the shape of the one like you are describing would probably go for $5000 to $6000. If it has a regular transmission it will have 4 forward gears in the main transmission (the long shift lever. with a two speed planetary on the rear of the transmission (The short Lever) that is called an 8 speed transmission. They had an option of a multipower transmission it has a small lever on the dash for shifting another hydraulically shifted two speed. Those have 12 speed forward and 4 reverse. if I can answer any more question about it email me at email@example.com
|mlshvb||Thanks Big Dean,
Is there somewhere preferable (cheap) that I could find some expensive parts like a manifold, and maybe cylinder head?
