|John Orlowski Jr||My folks had a barn fire, inside the barn was 3 tractors and a skid loader. The International 460 is a diesel burner, it was closest to the hay, and got the hottest, they also had a H and a M tractor. One of the tractors has the two speed rearend/trans..........is there any hope in rebuilding these tractors, or should they be parted out? Any help or info would really be appreciated.
|smokey||I have the same problem with a MF135 I lost and I am rebuilding. The local tractor wreckers says if the tyres are gone then part them out as all seals will need replacing. If the fire brigade sprayed water/foam all over them while hot then water will have been sucked into the transmissions. Engine and transmission oil will be burnt and acidic if they got a good cooking. Steel turns to shit at 540c. My own situation was the tractor got a real roasting. Alloy parts melted and tyres completely burnt. The fire was a brush fire and the fire brigade was to busy saving my house to put water on the barn. After the fire I tarped the tractor until the barn was rebuilt and bought second hand tyres so I could move it. This was in 1997. Last year I picked up a complete perkins diesel engine and with some bareco parts should be able to rebuild it. I cleased the fuel tank and have used it and the linkage on the tractor I purchased as a replacement.
