135 tranny swap

branch boy have 135 diesel with 8spd trans, trans has been giving problems for awhile now, have come across a donor tractor it is a 135 gas with a 6spd trans wondering what kind of issues i could get into if i decide to do this changeover any feed back would be greatly appreciated thanks
Geoff There is a difference in the later gearbox splines....they are finer than the 6 speed. I found out the hard way when a customer brought a second hand gearbox into the dealer I worked for and asked us to fit it. everything was going great 'till I tried to fit it in and it wouldn't go. Eventually I found out the pto shaft splines at the rear of the gearbox were finer than the 6-speed as were the input shafts slines. if you want to play about and possibly make 2 gearboxes into one you might be lucky or the other hand you might be getting yourself into more trouble than its worth....good luck in what ever decision you make...Geoff
