power steering pumpon 285
|Dave||i replace the power steering pump on my 285 Massy ferguson, bleed the air out but unit becomes very hot to the touch. I have ck line and they are clear, and tractor steers fine. Any suggestions as to why pump is geeting hot
|GEEBEE||They do generate quite a bit of heat, but... if its getting overly hot this is usually do to some kind of restriction like a blocked filter or too heavy oil, you should be using ATF
|Dave.|| Thanks I have been using the same fluid I use in the transmission and HYD. Pump gets so hot you can barely touch it with your bare hand's. Pump is brand new, do you think the filter would clog that quick?
|GEEBEE||I agree it's unlikely to be blocked so soon but i would replace it anyway, drain oil and put in type A ATF.
