massey ferguson 3090 steering

leo ryan my steering is extremely heavy ,almost impossible when warms up,hydaulics otherwise good, lifts anything i ask, have changed hydralic filter, can anyone help please ?
Geoff Leo is the steering heavy all the time or only when hot? The steering gets priority in the hydraulic system so you have a few possibilities, if the brakes have worn out the hydraulic filter clogs up....even if you have changed it it clogs up...fast!!. The only way to check it out is to put a magnet into the filter and see if it comes out with any debris on it......something like grey grinding paste...if so put the magnet into the casing through the threaded hole exposed when you removed the filter...see if anything comes out on the magnet. The next possibility is the main hydraulic pump being down in flow/pressure....even if the linkage lifts ok there is a low pressure side to that pump..there is also a possibility of a problem with the steering orbitrol unit but that is a specialist job apart from replacing it..expensive!!If there is a lot of debris in the filter it is most likely something has broken up inside the gearbox or back end..the favourite one is the brakes especially on higher houred tractors ane even more so on tractors towing large trailers that don't have an efficient braking system...you might also have a problem with seals in the steering ram but that is usually only one one side,if you need any more help let me know...Geoff.
Geoff Hi Leo ...I wonder how you are progressing with the problem on your tractor....I haven't heard any more from you and wonder if you have solved it?....Geoff
f walsh i have same problem replaced hydraulic pump but steering is still the same
