MF165 tachometer and oil leak
|G. Wright||I recently purchased a MF165 and the tachometer spins round and round. Why? Also right under where the TAC screws in, there is a small hole and it is leaking oil. Why?
The engine is the Perkins AD4.203
|GEEBEE||Sounds like the tractometer is broken. The oil leak at the block can be fixed by removing the cable, then the cap and installing a new seal and gasket, the seal fits inside the cap.
|G. Wright||Replaced the seal and gasket, oil still leaking out of the little hole below where the TAC screws in.
|GEEBEE||Presuming you were given the correct seal Perkins part# 30854 / MF# 636762M1 and you installed it with the garter spring towards the engine, it could be the coupler shaft has a groove worn in it and needs replaced. There is also an inner seal at the end of the camshaft but i cain't remember if this is accessible
|bill||When you installed the new seal you most likely fliped the spring off of the seal. if you slip a socket into the seal before you install it, this will expand the seal to allow an easier install.
