hyrostatic drive

rick i have recently gotten a mf 300a backhoe that has begun to have intermittent no movement problems. At times the tractor will move normally and then the next time I stop and then try to go it will not even act as if it is engaged at all, happens in both forward and reverse. can you tell me where the hydrostatic gets its oil from and where to check the level.the hoe and loader work fine, but it just does not engage the drive at times. What else could cause this problem other than low oil. thank you
