MF 35/ FE 35 Engine Rebuild
|Alan Gallant||I'm in the process of rebuilding a 23C diesel. I have rings from a reputable supplier but the piston requires 5 rings but they left out the second oil ring. It seems deliberate as the box states 4 rings. Is this normal ? Are they only putting in 4 rings now ?
Thanks in advance for any help
|Alan Gallant||Four Rings it is !
I have just spoken with a fellow in Exeter, England. Home of Vapormatic. He insists that it is correct and to carry on with the rebuild. No problems will be caused by the lack of the second oil ring, being the one closest to the crank. So onward I go.
I have also looked at page 208 of an old parts book "Parts Book, Massey Ferguson 35 and 35X Tractors". The diagram shows only the four rings with part numbers, no 5th ring on the diagram or number listed. So it appears massey installed only 4 rings from the beginning.
|GEEBEE||Thanks for the info Alan, i have never owned a tractor with the 23c diesel, nor would i ever consider it, but nevertheless that information is interesting, thanks.
