Starting problem

Chris Klumpp MF35 gasoline 6 volt tractor. With the key on, when I push the starter button it barely turns over the engine (clicking noise) but it wont start. With the key on, I push the button the solenoid and hold it in the engine starts. As long as I hold the button in, it continues to run. When I let the button go it dies? I've rebuilt the starter, bought a new solenoid, battery, and I going to buy a new voltage regulator. The starter button and ignition were bought new a few years ago. Can anyone help me? Thnaks
Tractor_Todd Usually something like this is a grounding issue
gregg J. Flower Had the same problem. Chect that the wire going to the ignition (coil) is connected to the correct pin on the back of the key/starter.
Do this by turning the key on and popping the points open with a screwdriver, there should be a little spark. if not there is no power to the coil when the key is in on position/starter button realesaed
