TO-30 starting problems

Andrew Vaske my 30 won't start without first pulling the plugsa nd hitting it with a little starting fluid in each of the cylinders. Runs fine after that. This happens whether it is warm or cold. The tractor has a front loader, could the hydraulics be putting too much drag. Reason I ask this is that the engine cranks very slowly, it has the original 6 volt setup, should I convert to 12 volt. Would that give me more cranking power/faster cranking?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

A 12 volts solved the same kind of problem for me.

12 Volt conversion would be a definite plus. My TO-30 was a bear to start before I converted it to 12V (Using an alernator). Now it fires up easily as long as the points are clean, and the battery is always charged.
