broken rear cover and housing

Dale Dragging some cut up sections of log around I heard a metallic clink. I looked down and hydraulic fluid was every where .The rear cover was shattered and the rear housing is cracked. the 3 point hitch has stopped working. What caused this?

Geoff Gane Dale the most common problem that causes housings and casings to crack is they have worked loose and start to move about especially with hydraulic top covers....I have seen this problem before especially on large tractors with heavy ploughs mounted on the 3 point lonkage....the top cover works loose and the bolts begin to move and eventually the covers work slack....move about and shear the bolts and then crack the casings....Hope this gives you some explaination ....Geoff
