|Bob Webb||Folks, I have replaced the starter and solenoid and my 2240 still clicks but will not start. Is there something I am missing here?
|Jerry||Could be a bad battery cable or batteries. Only way to trouble shoot it is with a meter. I have a 1981 2240 and I converted it to side terminal battery leads, and I start it year round with only one battery instead of the normal two. My motor is pushing 5500 hours, so it's pretty loose. Runs great, though.
|lonzo|| remove the cable off the starter and tuch the cable that hookes to the bottom of the solenoid and see if the starter runs, if it dose then hook cable back on solenoid and see if your selnoid will work when you short across the start post to battery, if it works then you might have low curent going to the solnoid that is under the hood that sends curent to the starter
|jerry fincher||was working with the above tractor and all of
sudden lost power, cut off and wont do anything.

|Jerry Lorenz||Bob, I have the same problem. Can you please tell me how you fixed your problem? Thanks from Jerry in Colorado.
|Jimbo||Jerry, check all the fuses.
|jerry b||I got the same problem fuse ok. battery up, cables ok, there is a littel box at the dash that clicks? I've had this problem for a wile took it in to dealer he replaced the switch $100. still clicks. used to click 4 5 times than it would start. now after 4 5 times it just clicks and clicks and never takes off. could that littel box be bad. could i get a step by step on trouble shooting this. thanks Jerry b
|mark||neutral switch bad.
|Phillip Scott||Sound as if your electrical switch under your seat has moved. The reason being is that all 790 and i have one have rubber bushings under the lift seat. As they start to wear and deterate they will allow the seat to drop down and the electrical safety switch will mis aligned itself. When this occurs whether the tractor is running or not it will shut it self down and will cut off. I would take a look at this first.
Hope it might have helped.
