Oil pressure- JD M 1949 at start up- slow to build up

Frank Oellig The tractor the oil pressure reaches the normal level after 15 seconds of running from start up. Also, when changing the filter, very little oil- about a table spoon came out when the drain plug of the filter base was removed. Naturally, there was no flood of oil inside the filter can when it was removed to replace the filter. Is there suppose to be a check valve in the system to keep the filter filled with oil when the engine is shut down? Frank Oellig
ponymare I don't know if there's a check valve or not, but my uncle has a 420 jd that's the same way. It runs normal pressure and has little oil in the filter when pulled. He says he's had it for 25 years and was always like that.
