445 oil pump gear keeps falling off

gary I have replaced the entire oil pump assembly, at first the engine stopped running and I opened it up and found the oil pump gear torn apart. I replaced the entire assembly, also replaced both connecting rods, new rings, polished the crank. cam gear looked good as well as water and governor. so once I put it back together, it ran fine for about one minute and the oil light came and I heard something from the engine. I opened it back up and the gear had fallen off. I put a new gear back on and checked everything over and could figure out why it fell off. I put it back together and I got the same thing, motor ran great for about a minute and the oil light came on again. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. the gear is pushed onto the pin all the way. Please help engine runs to good its 18yrs old and has 2500hrs.
ponymare Is the gear that drives the oil pump on the crank or cam, and if the oil pump gear was chewed up, what condition was the drive gear. And is the oil pump gear pressed or keyed to the shaft?
