john deere final drive
|john semerzakis||I have a JD 1965 industrial tractor with back hoe and bucket. I have oil coming out of the brake housing which is part of the final drive housing. seal is gone and the front bearing is gone. need info on how to remove final drive to get to final shaft to replace 2 bearings and seals.
|Dale||John: The finals on the right and left (axle housing) I assume you are requesting info about.
Use the stabilizers and lift the machine up just far enough to get the rear wheel off. Remove the wheel and place a floor jack under the axle housing. Remove the ring of bolts attaching it to the differential housing. Tap down on the axle housing and the entire thing will fall onto the jack. Straight forward and simple until assembly and then the bearings need preload to specified. Use fishing weights (3) round 1/8" diameter to find the end spacer squish to pre load. Pretty simple and about 4 hours each side after cleaning and gluing.
