JD 2955 Steering problems
|Lance||I have a JD 2955 which is having steering problems. While driving, the steering has what feels like resistance in either direction. If you vigorously turn the wheel back and forth, it feels like there is no problem. Turning it slow you can feel resistance. If you turn the steering wheel a little in either direction, the steering wheel and wheels go all the way in that direction. If you turn back in the other direction, they go all the way in that direction. Will replacing the steering valve located at the bottom of the steering column most likely fix this problem?
|bill||did you every figure problem out have the same problem myself except a on 3155
|Ted Johnson||I have found that the steering motor usually has metal filings jamming it. Removal, disassembly and thorough cleaning is necessary.
|jdjoe||have repaired a 2955 with the exact steering failure. had to do the repair twice before we found the cause of the problem. got it out of the customer that a brake had been sticking. it had been used enough with brake dragging that it had worn all the faceing from the disk so now it is metal on metal stopping the tractor. the final drives will have to be removed to inspect the condition of the brakes. as for the steering valve, it takes an experienced tech to diassemble and clean and reassemble that steering valve. a job for your john deere dealership.
