jd 955 starter problems

jpt need suggestions on starter I have power to it will not move just click ,battey is ok, this is my second one with low hours on tractor., gear to flywheel is all the way out but i can push it back in. thanks
John That gear to flywheel is called a Bendix. If the
bendix is all the way out, then it's come lose
inside the starter, it should be pulled back by
the starter and pushed out when it spins. The
bendix is controlled by the solenoid. The starter
not spinning could be the armiture needs cleaning
where the brushes ride on it, or the brushes them
selves are stuck, and not touching the comminator, that is the little bars at one end.
