John Deere 870 mechanical problem advice please
|Don Reid||Yesterday while mowing a pasture my JD 870's motor suddenly went dead. Ever since then the engine will crank, idle as long as care to let it and normally respond to the throttle. However if I depress clutch then shift it into gear or engage the pto it instantly goes dead.
A little quick troubleshooting showed that I had lost the fuel tank cap and the glass fuel filter bowl was only about 1/3 full when it had always been completely full before. The fuel guage shows over 1/2 tank. I will obviously replace the fuel tank cap, but I didn't have time to get to a JD dealer today.
Any helpful advice will be deeply appreciated.
