JD 260 riding mower engine oil light

KRISTOPHER CHANCE BOLAN The oil light on my mower is flickering on and off while I mow. I just changed the oil and filter. Could the oil pump be failing?
bontai Joe Did you use the correct weight oil? Is the level full? Did you use a Deere oil filter or some aftermarket one? Any of these things might have an effect.
Kris I used 5w30, NAPA Filter and the oil is full. At high RPM the light flickers and at low RPM the light is constant.
bontai Joe If it were me, I'd switch the filter out for the correct Deere filter. Yeah, I know there are cross reference charts for NAPA and NAPA filters are good, but there may be just enough difference in specs to cause a problem. Could also be sludge accumulated around the oil pressure sensor, or sludge restricing oil flow somewhere else in the motor, or could be the oil pump. What did the oil look like that you drained at the last oil change?
Kris The oil was thin and black, like normal used oil. Is the sensor accesable or a way to check for sludge.
KRIS Changed the oil pressure sensor and the light stayed off. A week later the mower quit 45 min into mowing. The oil light is on again. I think the new switch went out already.
