JD STX38 just quit
|Mark T.||My STX38 just quit in the middle of mowing. Tried to restart it but just cranks. Tank is 3/4 full and verified it gets spark but won't fire up. Any ideas where to start looking?
|Mike||Sometimes a rocker arm comes loose and the push rod falls out, but never seen it on those machines. Could take the valve cover off and have a look. Also check for compression.
You can turn the engine by hand and you should be able to feel resistance on the compression stroke.
|Mike B||If you have a clear fuel filter, look to see if there is gas in it when it shuts down. If not, check to make sure the vent in the gas cap is not plugged. If it is, unplug it (small drill bit should work).
|TonyT||Check the spark plug.
