||tractor dies after running short time. i bleed fuel system. tractor will run if fuel line is cracked at injector pump.can anyone offer advise
| John Mechanic
Look at the top of the injection pump, you will see a small line coming out of the top, this is a return line.
Remove the line and then the fitting. Start the tractor and see if it will run. Also watch the hole you took the fitting out of. When you start the engine it will fuel coming out of it, but watch the fuel and see if any small plastic pieces are in the fuel.
Inspect the fitting to see if it has plastic pieces in it (there is a check ball in the fitting).
It sounds like the governor weight retaining is coming apart in the injection pump (this is a common problem with that pump).
When the retaining ring starts to disintegrate it will plug the return fitting causing back pressure in the pump.
I will keep watch to see if you need more help

||sounds like the return line coming from the pump is stuck shut. try removing the line from the pump, and then remove the fitting. look inside the fitting and you will probably see and small glass ball in it. use a small punch and just drive this ball and spring out of the fitting, reassemble and try it again. the ball is part of the antidrain back system and the machine will run fine without it.
