JD 4430 wheel wedge broke
Post a Followup
||How do you remove the wheel wedge when you've broken the back part off?
||i broke one the same way and ended up welding a bearing race to the end of a piece of pipe that would fit over the axle and line up to the surface of the wedge and then welded a thick piece of iron to the other end of the pipe and beat on it with a sledge hammer till it finally broke loose..............good luck.......oh ya and ive also had good luck with a penatrating oil called PB Blaster....seems to work good on rusted and stubborn parts
||Thanks, Mark--that's just what we've done....the pounding AND the PB--and it's as stuck as ever... We are going to drive it as is--carefully--and when it comes apart, we've got everything to repair it then and there. I should have listened to my father when he told me--20 years ago--to be careful and that these things break easy. Thanks again.
||The way to break loose the wedge is to use a big sledge hammer...hit the end of the axle as hard as you can...try to drive the axle into the tractor..and don't stop until the wedge breaks loose...it took me maybe 10 hits before the vibration broke the wedge loose...
