John Deere A fan shaft noise

John hood I have a 1947-49 Model A and the shaft that runs from the govenor box to the fan pully is making a whinning noise. Is there any type lubrication required for this mechanism.
John Hood I have discovered what appears to be a fill plug at the top of the fan bearing housing. I removed the plug and inserted a wire to check for lubrication oil. I detected a small amount of what smells like gear oil at the bottom of the housing. Am I suppose to add oil to this housing and if so how much as i see no fill level indicator. Maybe the oil is bearing grease from where the bearing was packed when installed. I see no maintenance of adding oil to the housing?? Thanks.
Evan Gottfried That area out by the pulley is i suppose where your getting your noise from? If so that area was originally filled to the plug with gear oil, but the seals arnt trustful anymore. SO in that case just get yourself a 3/8" thread grease zirt anf thread that baby in there and pump some grease in there. hopefully that sovle the problem and there inst a damaged bearing in there.
