5200 Tachometer/Fuel gauge

DaveS. My 5200 tachometer stopped working and soon after the fuel gauge. Towards the end the tach needle would jump when you turned on the lights or flashers. I checked all the grounds I could find, replaced a diode connected to both gauges based on a dealer recommendation, and even spent a lot of money for a whole new gauge cluster and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?
Hoss The tach problem could just be the magnetic pickup (sender). The m.p. is usually the problem. The fuel gauge is probably the sender also. A broken wire could cause the same problem but probably wouldn't affect both at the same time. A wiring schematic would help in that case. Check the senders first you will probably find your problem. Use a ohm meter on the fuel sender but the tach sender is easier to check with a known good sender.
