Hydraulic oil

Fred Zeller Hi, I would like to know If I can use any hydraulic oil in my 318 lawn tractor, or should I use John Deere oil only.?
Fred

Dave Fred - The current recommendation from Deere is to use JD Low Viscosity Hy-Gard. There is a JD Spec (J20D). If another brand meets the JD Spec, you should be able to use that as well. Using plain hydraulic oil, however, could very well damage the transmission as well as the hydrostatic power steering valve. Originally, Deere used JD All Weather Hydrostatic Fluid, which was relabled Type F transmission fluid. - Dave
