J-D 850 PTO noise
|Rick G.||I just purchased a JD 850 that`s 30 yrs old. It`s my 1st tractor and I use it for wildlife food plots on leased property. I tried to till hardpan and demolished the cross on my PTO shaft and promptly repaired it. Now I notice that when my cutter is winding down I am getting a steady "clicking" noise from the PTO area with the clutch fully depressed and the PTO engaged. It quits as soon as I disengage the PTO lever. The guys at the dealership where I purchased the cutter told me that I had wrecked something in the PTO drive when I was trying to till. A few other folks said that was normal for my tractor and was a built in device to prevent the momentem of the implement from pushing the tractor in an emergency. I don`t know but I don`t want to do further damage by continuing to use!!! Thanks for your help.
