318 Battery light when PTO is engaged and headlights are on

Willie My 318 tractor will illuminate the battery light on the dash when the PTO is engaged AND the headlights are on. If I shut off the headlights, the battery light goes out. If I turn off the PTO and turn the headlights on, the battery light goes off.

I am thinking the PTO clutch is drawing too much current. I plan on checking the air gap. I replaced the regulator 5 years ago due to a no-charge problem. Any ideas?

bontai Joe Sounds like you are on the right track so far.
Dana The battery voltage is sensed at the time delay module on pin 5 (red wire)of the connector. Light comes on at 12.3 v and goes out at 12.7 volts. What voltage are you seeing at the battery when the light is coming on? Make sure you dont have a voltage drop between the battery and the module.
Check the ground on the regulator. Clean all ground connections. I haven't seen one in a while but i thing the time delay module is behind the dash somewhere.

George Needs Electric Magnet for clutch. Coil is shorted.
Willie Thanks for the information. Does anyone know what current the clutch coil is supposed to draw?
Greg check the 2 amp fuse real good especially the connectors for corrosion ,
Willie The battery light now comes on when I turn the headlights on - regardless if the PTO is engaged. I checked the battery voltage at the center terminal of the regulator and it was 13.5 - 14.0 volts and the light was still on. I am now going to check the voltage at the time delay module as well as the 2 amp fuse contacts.
