|Nick||Hello there. I have a new starter for my JD 318 Onan engine B43. This one has the solenoid on the fire wall. There is a BLACK CAP ON THE NEW STARTER DRIVE GEAR, SHOULD THIS BE REMOVED? IS IT A PROTECTIVE SHIPPING PIECE THAT SHOULD BE REMOVED BEFORE INSTAULATION? The old starter doesn't have one on it Thanks for you help.
|Bruce||The black cap remains on the starter shaft, do not remove it. Just a new design! You are correct, it is for protection.
