180 LAWN TRACTOR

BOB I HAVE A JOHN DEERE 180 LAWN TRACTOR THAT HAS AN INTERMITTENT JERKING WHILE MOVING. BELT IS GOOD, PULLEYS ARE OK, I HAVE OPENED UP THE REAR DIFF AND CAN NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE
Bruce Could be a couple things...but I highly suspect your drive belt. Is this a hydro, or gear tranny? If hydro...it is definately the belt, or bad pulley (less likely.) The belt has a "thin" spot, caused by an unflared belt burning on the drive pulley, while running in neutral. You'll notice a narrowing at one point on the belt...about 6 inches long. Another cause, would be a bent drive, or idler pulley. If this is a gear drive tractor, and the jerking is "only" in one gear (ie: the gear you use all the time), then that gear is worn out. But I'm tellin ya....it's your belt! Seen it a thousand times!
George O'Neill I just did one it is the shift keys there are 4 of them in the gear box
