||i have a 1990 j d 285 18 hp hydro. when climbing a hill the tractor slows a bit while mowing up hill then on flat groung its fine.is their an adjustment i can make or something i can fix
||It is normal for hydrostatic tractors to slow a little bit when climbing hills or pulling heavy loads. Also will pick up a little speed going down hill. The difference is minimal, but you will notice it. If that is what yours is doing, don't worry about it. But if you are losing say half your speed (I know it's hard to judge without a speedometer) then it needs to be addressed.
||Brian - How long has it been since the hydro fluid and filter have been changed? If it's been more than two seasons or 200 hours, it may be time. Otherwise, some loss of speed going uphill is normal. - Dave
||Need a picture on the 285 transmission belt, blew mine and took all belts off, seat and gas tank, etc. now don't remember how belts go on. Does anybody know where I could get a picture of all the belts???? Thank you,
