john deere 185 serious problem

claudio A small screw from the carburator has fallen off and went into the motor. It doesn't seem to be sitting in the valve area so how do i go about removing the head of the motor to get into the cylinder because i'm sure it's stuck in that area as it makes such a huge noise when the motor turns. You can send any replies to my email too.

thanks.

Bruce Yes, I've seen this many, many times! You'll need to remove the cylinder head, and remove that brass screw which came off the carb's butterfly valve! It is beating the hell out of the cylinder, and piston head! And,...it *will* get lodged in a valve, and ruin the valve and seat! Remove head. Remove brass screw. Clean surfaces. Replace head gasket. Properly torque head bolts. Remove carb. Replace missing butterfly screw. Replace carb gasket. Remount carb. Viola!
