8n hydraulics and rpm

T Gold Have an 8n with 9n engine. Hydraulics are weak but usually work. Blade drops to ground when clutch depressed. have experienced times when blade will go three ft off ground (and slow to lower) and other times when will go only about 10 inches off ground. normally it will only lift to bottom of blade 10inches from ground. Last week I noticed the blade will rise higher (to aprox 2ft) while tractor is idling at low rpm or if I am moving at low rpm. Any ideas what makes it handle this way?
Bob G Sounds like you have bad leak at the piston. You could remove the righthand round plate with the dipstick in it and watch when it is running and lifting. I bet you will see a lot of fluid coming down from the top. should be little to none.
Just guessing but maybe the RPM BIT is that it leaks less with the lower pressure of lower rpms.

While dropping when clutch is depressed is not right, normally it is not a problem unless you are having lifting problems.

How does the oil look? might be time for a good clean out and new oil. relief valve or control valve may be getting sticky also.

Good luck.

T. Gold I have lived with the dropping for a couple of years and changed all fluids last fall. Will check the piston. thanks!!
