47 Ford 2N
|Todd||Had my grandfather's 47 Ford 2N restored for my dad 18 mths ago. Always had points/distributor problems so had it switched to electronic ignition. Now 1/2 the time...she just want crank no matter what we try (and we know all the tricks). Go out 2 days later and fires right off. We've tried everything...any ideas for a "fresh" starting point? She's been a weekly worker for 67 years now...I want her to last/run as long as my Dad does. Thanks in advance!
|Bob G||It could be as simple as you are flooding it, or something is haywire with the electronic ign. When it will not start, do you have a good strong blueish spark? If it has spark is it getting fuel thru the carb? check by removing drain in bottom and measuring the amount you get. Should fill a pint jar in two to three minutes.
|Jim Loveridge||Todd, when you say "won't crank" do you mean it won't spin over or do you mean it won't start?

|ED||he said it fires right up 2 days later,,,might be a coil overheating...switch heating up...sounds like something is shorting it out for 2 days...lol...kinda sounds like me...heck getting old
|Bob G||It all depends on what Jim asked. If it is turning over but not starting then maybe a lot of things. If it not turning over at all, the mechanical starter switch could be worn.
|Jim Loveridge||That's what I was thinking. Two days later it could be just warmer enough for some expansion and then the switch makes contact. But he might mean it won't start, then he needs to do what Bob said.
