8N PTO Question

Greg Bowron I am looking at purchasing a 8N, It has no PTO shaft out the back. Is this the way some of them were built or what? there is just a plate bolted over the location were the PTO shaft should be any help would be appreciated. the owner is not sure which year it is either. Thanks Greg
mark sr I don't know a lot about the 8Ns but thought they all came with PTO. You should be able to determine the year by the serial number.
Jim L Hello Greg, welcome to our little forum. Check to see if there is a lever on the left side (if you are sitting on the seat) of the tractor just below the seat. This would be the engagement lever for a PTO. The serial number should be on a flat of the block just rear of the oil filter. If you pass that number along we can tell you what year it is. If the PTO lever is there, PTO shafts are available. Beware though, there is 5 gallons of oil in the sump that will come pouting out if you remove that plate. You can drain it first using the drain plugs under the transmission and differential.
