In Reply to: 1970? Case 680ck Power steering getting weak posted by Kevin on Tuesday, May 29, 2018:

Should work if it is the right pressure and direction and you can mount it,your old pump is belt driven with it's own reservoir I take it,some models had a gear driven pump and those used oil from the main hydraulics, the belt driven pump reservoir has a filter inside it and should it get plugged the pump would starve for oil and the steering would be heavy and jerky so I take it you have replaced that filter, when the engine is stopped and you turn the wheel it should be very heavy, that is the emergency steering,ie should the engine cut out going along the road etc,if you do not have that heavy emergency steering it can be the the hand pump/valve is not getting oil or there is a seal gone in one of the steering cylinders,if with the engine running the steering is heavy like with the engine stopped that will be the driven pump is not making enough pressure, can be lack of oil, plugged filter, weak or broken spring in the relief valve or the valve stuck open, check those few things and see what you find.
