Yanmar 240d hydraulic problems

Wesley Moore I have a Yanmar 240D with a front end loader. I installed a new control valve for the fel and the pump started leaking fluid from the cover. I purchased new O rings and now the pump will not pump. The lift or the fel will not work. Checked the strainer and refilled with new oil. Has anyone had this problem? Would hate to purchase a new pump if that is not the problem. Have had this problem occur in the past and it went away. Was wandering if there is a trick to getting the pump primed.
Al What kind of oil did you fill with?
norm Sounds like the new control valve is either defective or improperly installed, blocking fluid flow, causing leakage at the pump and eventual breakage of the pump shear key.
Wesley Moore When the new control valve was installed, everything worked properly, with the exception of the oil leak on the pump cover. Key is not sheared and cannot get the pump to pump after replacing O rings in the pump. Is there any trick to priming the pump?
Wesley Moore Purchased oil at NAPA. It was their equivilant to John Deere 303
norm When you take the pump apart again to re-check the key and your work, I would fill it with oil, otherwise there is no way/need for priming. If it's working and can get oil through the pickup screen it will pump.
Wesley Moore Okay, I got the pump to finally move some oil by fast idling the tractor. Everything moves as it should, but it is very slow. The lift moves up and down, but won't lift any weight. Is this telling me that the pump is bad or possibly the relief valve is stuck open?
norm You said you "checked the strainer". Does that mean you removed the pick-up screen and examined it? I honestly have never heard of one that wasn't at least partially plugged with goop after any reasonable length of time.
Wesley Moore I had changed the fluid and cleaned the strainer about three months ago. To eliminate any question about the strainer, I drained the fluid and checked the strainer again and found no problem. Refilled with new fluid.
