Massey 35 tractormeter

Peter Richter Hey folks, I have a 1964 Massey 35 (with 3 cyl Perkins diesel) that I bought and restored for use on the farm. The tractor was without a tach when I bought it so I purchased a tractormeter and cable for the serial # of my tractor online. I am having trouble getting this tach unit to work. It seems that the tach drive unit (that the square end of the drive cable fits into) on the rear R of the engine rotates counterclockwise if you are looking at the drive but the tach requires the cable to rotate opposite to drive it? Anybody have any suggestions? Maybe the tractormeter unit is defective?
Thanks, Peter
