Tractor just quit running

Ed D. My neighbor has a MF 240 3 cyl Perkins diesel.He said it just quit running on him. He's 82 yrs young! Anyway, it has plenty of diesel in it but it won't start even after bleeding it. He thinks it's the pump but he can't afford one. He say's they cost $2000 for a new one. Any ideas on how to get his tractor going again? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
