MF135 Diesel air locked
| Rich |
I changed the fuel filter on this tractor and when I started it back up it ran fro a bit then died. I pulled fuel filters and refilled with diesel and tried going through the steps for bleeding air as it is posted in book. At this time I have been unable to get any fuel past the primary filter. The manual pump lever doesn't seem to be working after about the 3rd stroke. I have installed a new lift pump with same results. Is there a way to put an external pump at the inlet to primary to pump through the system? Any help would be appreciated.

be sure pump is cam lever isn't being held in by the cam turn engine until you get the best stroke on the pump lever . open bottom bleeder screw on injector pump, pump primer lever until fuel clear of air comes out,, sometimes removing the screw will help purge the air ,close screw ,open top repeat procedure. sometimes this takes a good deal of pumping because filters and injector pump have to be purged.once clear fuel comes out of bleeder screws make sure both are closed continue to pump primer a few more times to force any air left in the filters thru the return line. loosen any two injector lines at the injector ,put fuel shut off in run position ,put throttle in full position ,spin engine until fuel begins to leak from one of the lines tighten that line, spin again ,tighten the other line while spinning, it will probalibly start while tighting the line, let it get to full rpm then slow down to half for about a minute ,should be alright.

Thanks. I have tried a lot of this but not in the order you mentioned. I will give it another go later today and see if I can get it going. The primary filter has been bled off but have been unable to get pure fuel out of the secondary filter even while cranking the engine.

I still have not gotten this tractor to run longer than 5 miinutes before it quites again. I have fuel at both bleeders and the top of both filters. It will start after some cranking then run for about 4 to 5 minutes maximum and is air locked again.

Are you sure you put the top seal in the top grove and not in the filter. I have found that some people do not put the top seal in the grove instead put in on top of the filter causing a blockage of fuel to the pump. make sure you place the top seal in the top grove and not on top of fuel filter.
