massey ferguson 6280 pto problem year 1999

gerry scully When i engage the pto it will disengage after a few minutes (about three) without explanation.
Geoff Gerry as these tractors autotronic system is electronicaly controlled it could be a fault in the autotronic unit .....corrosion in the wiring or a fault with either the PTO solenoid or spool....unless you are lucky and find any of the faults I have described you will need to either get your local MF dealer to visit you or tale the tractor to him. One thing I would check before you start to delve too deep and that is the main battery connection onto the starter. I once had a fault similat to the one you describe and after days of hunting for broken/corroded wires and a host of other possibilities I found the fault by chance....the main connection onto the starter was slack despite the tractor starting perfectly....the only service to be affected was the PTO....Geoff
bill There are a few things that can disengage your pto. the Computer if working properly will disengage it if there is clutch pack slipage, your pto light will flash. Your supply voltage to your computer drops below 10.5v appox. When this is occuring what is your pto load ( heavy or light ) If you watch your pto speed in relation to engine rpm and see if both drop at the same rate if the pto slows and the engine doesn't, you have clutch pack troubles. The Auto III controler is a very good controler, not like the ones before auto I and auto II. Most likley not the computer. And check the grounds on the fire wall.
