| first_mower | I've got a 2 acre lot, at least an 1.5 acres of grass, and don't have a mower. Not much in the way of trees (yet, I'll be digging holes when I'm not mowing this summer) but about a 1 to 3 slope on the sides of the septic field. I want a mower that will last me at least 10 years. I know my basics, and then some. Not only all the options but the real manufacturers, etc... Oh, and my wife's not going to let me spend much over 2 grand. (maybe $2500) We just bought the house over the winter, so money is tight, that and she pinches every penny. We'll spend more if its worth it in the long run. Simplicity, John Deere, Husqvarna, Kubota, Airens, Craftsman, others? Love to hear some advice. |
| first_mower | I've been tempted by the Huqvarna 1542xp with the 15 hp kawasaki v-twin engine, but can't decide if I'm better off with another brand... What's better, that or spending the same amount on a "high-end" craftsman with a 48 inch (10 guage) deck, or the craftsman with the 42 inch (12 guage) deck and 16.5 hp Honda engine? Too many options.

| ben | i have the dlt3000 and couldnt be happier. i got the 20hp kolher but you can get the 25hp B&S or the 16.5hp HONDA i think any of these would fit your budget and do what you want! spend the extra on the automatic!!!

| Jim (WV) | All the brands you listed in the first post are adequate for what you want to do. "If" its just mowing and pulling a cart, etc. Any of them will last you the 10 years as you wanted, with proper maintenance. At least they should :). If you plan on doing more than that later on, you should move into a garden tractor instead. For your size lot, you have to consider that larger decks, equal how much time you are going to spend mowing, the larger the shorter time. Personally I always recommend buying from a dealer instead of a "box" store like Lowes, Home Depot, etc. If the time comes you need some service or repair, a good dealer will take care of you. You also have him/her as an outlet for parts that may be needed down the road. The best thing you can do is visit Sears, John Deere, Cub Cadet etc. Look the different models over, set on them, try them out if possible, ask questions, you'll know when you find the right one cause it will put the biggest smile on your face :). I just purchased one of the new John Deere L120's at a dealer in March, it gave me the biggest bang for my buck and was suited to my applications. I have a 1.5 acre lot with some trees and 25 degree slopes, plus push snow in the winter with a blade. I also had a $2500.00 budget and this tractor was $2199.00. With the snow blade and rear wheel chains, total came to $2550.00. I had the dealer "load" the rear tires for free for extra traction weight on my slopes and for winter snow removal. Good Luck and have fun shopping :)
