| Richard | I have a 20-hp BS vertical shaft L-head engine which blew. The engine had only 3-years of service. Crankshaft shows friction-caking from the connecting rod to the upper piston. The engine has always had adequate, clean oil and shows absolutely no other signs of being without oil -- no wear, etc. Has anyone heard of any oil distribution or connecting rod problems with these B&S engines. Any service bulletins ? Any suggestions for contacts with B&S or MTD ? Appreciate it. Richard |
| Sirmowalot | The engine is out of warranty so i think you are out of luck as far as getting any compensation. I have run across an instance on an 8hp horizontal where there must have been a piece of metal from either the machining or assembly process that plugged the main bearing on the flywheel end and seized. Luckily that engine was still under warranty.

| Richard | I will be receiving vendor/manufacturer assistance to repair the engine and will let you know how it goes. In the future, I will use multi-grade oil in the winter and maintain moderate rpm under all loads and conditions.
