Honda 4514 Break worn out and overheating
| Larry Works | The hand break barely holds. It is probably just worn out and needs some parts but I am not sure where to start. Is there a way to adjust it before I start spending cash? Second question. I am starting to get overheating problems. When I shut it down after an hour or so I can hear a ‘boiler’ noise. The left side of the radiator seems to be cooler than the right. Other that keeping the radiator screen clean and changing the coolant, what other maintenance is suggested? Other than Honda, where is a good place to order parts? |
| Larry Works | I meant to say a "boiling bubbling sound"

| Larry | It should read Hand Brake. Not sure what I was thinking when I typed this question.

| Tom | Hi Larry, The shop manual shows some good drawings of the hand brake components, there are a lot of them. My hand brake linkage was rusting inside of a slider tube and I had to disassemble & clean/lube, then adjust it. www.helminc prints the shop manuals for Honda. Overheating can be dirt lodged in the radiator cooling fins...flush it out both ways with a garden hose. Or it can be a bad thermostat, water pump, lower radiator hose collapse, or plugged radiator internally. Tom |
