Craftsman 19.5 HP 42" automatic - transmission appears to be locked
| Tom Christie | After moving the lawn I parked the tractor in the garage. A week later, I can't get the tractor to move. A week later the tractor won't move, almost like the brakes are engaged. I have also disengaged the freewheel control at the back and no difference. When i attempt to push the tractor it moves a few inches and jams, also a click/knock sound like metal on metal, so something seems to be catching either in the transmission unit or the axle near the rear wheel. Anyone any ideas. I wondered if it could be a wheel square key, but I would expect that would allow the wheels to free wheel without engaging, whereas I can't seem to stop them engaging??? |
| rcbe | might ck to see if your parking brake device - mounted on the transaxle - is froze up.

| jed1950 | Hello this may sound odd to you but I had the same thing happen to me when I worked for Montgomery Wards and what was happening was the actuating pins on the brake assembly were binding or hanging up,so I would step on the clutch/brake pedal and SLIP MY FOOT OFF SO THAT THE PEDAL WOULD JUMP BACK ,this would dislodge or free up the brakes and it would unjam the brakes.Just keep yourself away as the pedal can hurt when it comes back pretty fast
