sears dyt 4000 w/kohler 25hp and hydrostatic trans

PK	While cutting my lawn my sears dyt 4000 w/kohler 25hp and hydrostatic trans tractor just quit. The engine just coughed a few times,back fired and then just stopped. Now it won't even turn over. I removed the battary, charged it and it still won't turn over. Won't even click. Now in addition to the above symtoms the tansmission will not disengage. I pull and latch the engage/disengage lever at the back of the tractor and it has no effect. I now can't even roll the tractor since the wheels are locked up. Don't know if the two problems are related. Any trouble shooting suggestions would be appreciated.
Joe	Check owners manual for a wiring diag or check wiring harness for blown fuse(s) or protective loop,if clutch/brake pedal locked down,release same,pedal may be engaging a parking brake,& tractor won't move in freewheel position.
max	sounds like you have a bent push rod.thats what i would check first.
