| Mike | my dad tried to take off the tire to repair a flat,he beat on it to get it to come off and in doing so the axel came out with the tire still attached.lol im still laughing. But i put it back in and im still able to remove the axel with just my hand.can you help............... Thanks |
| rcbe | most likely will take some serious shadetree mechanicing to repair that prob. Get the full model number off the tractor's I.D. Plate - go to the Sears parts website and look at the transaxle parts detail. You then should be able to make a decision about how/who will repair what. Those axles are usually held in with a snap ring or such - often hafta disasemble the axle housing to re-install... |
| Joe | Here's where the laughing stops & the serious/expensive work begins,Clean oil/grease off end of shaft that goes into trans, probably within a 1/2" of end you'll find a groove cut around shaft, there used to be a snap,C or E ring in this groove, pounding on tire/rim caused ring to break or jump off shaft, also on shaft ahead of ring groove you'll find either a spline or flat(s) cut into shaft that connect a bevel/drive gear to same, gear may/may not have dropped out of position inside transaxle,to repair transaxle will have to be removed from tractor, case opened up & gear/snap ring reinstalled on axle shaft,if no assembly drawings in owners manual, depending on make/type trans goto www.searspartsdirect.com,enter tractor model, see if any assembly drawings for trans online,if not,try to find out mfg/mod# of transaxle, then search online or ebay for a repair manual OR look for a good used trans on ebay, take to sears, local mower shop for repair.
