MTD stops moving
| Jerry |
I have an MTD garden tractor model 146S848H372. The problem is I can mow with it for about 15 min and it will slowly stop moving and after a few seconds the belt starts to screech..it runs fine and cuts fine it just stops moving....if I shut it off and restart it but shift to a lower speed say "5" ( out of 7) it runs fine but if I move it back up it slows to a stop....could it be the variable pulley...I replaced the finale drive belt and I think I'll replace the engine to variable pulley belt....I had been setting for almost two years so belt replacement is probably a good idea anyway...if anybody has any ideas I could ues them....

usually when your problem happens both belts should be replaced and also make sure that the clutch/brake linkage is not binding and moves free, the vari-speed pulley has roller bearings on the top and bottom of the pulley ass'y lube the bearings and make sure that the center of the vari-speed pulley moves free and bushings are not worn,if they are it will bind and this could cause your belt slipping,I have some parts for these.
