Craftsman Lawn tractor not working!

Betsy When trying to start our Craftman lawn tractor, the fuel comes out of some sort of an overflow, soaks the air filter, and while it briefly starts, it blows blue smoke and stalls. Any ideas of what is wrong and how we fix it?
Joe Check for dirt in float needle seat, sticking float, float level(you'll have to remove & disassemble carb to check these things),check oil dipstick,if oil over full or oil on stick smells of gas, drain oil & refill with fresh oil AFTER locating/repairing flooding problem in carb,if carb float valve leaking & flooding eng,gas is probably draining into crankcase also, diluteing oil & raiseing level.
bontai Joe Joe is right on in his diagnosis in my opinion, and I can't emphasize enough how IMPORTANT it is to check the oil for overfull, and/or a gasoline smell. If gas has trickled through your carb into the oil, it needs to be changed with fresh oil. Gasoline is a terrible lubricant, even if mixed with oil.
